This listing is for the Australite Tektite specimen detailed in the photographs. This beautiful piece comes from South Australia. It is an excellent example of the elegant forms that come from this area, and has a pristine, black surface.
Australite tektites were formed in an event known as the Australasian Impact. The impacting meteorite hit approximately 780,000 years ago in the Bay of Tonkin. Molten, glassy material was thrown high into the outer atmosphere (some reaching space), raining back down and cooling to a hardened glass. Tektites from the Australasian impact are scattered throughout a vast strewn field (the largest known in the world) throughout China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and as far as Australia. Tektites collected in each of these areas boast their own unique attributes due to complex factors of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and environmental weathering. The strewn field in South Australia is the furthest from the original crater, meaning the tektites found here often display the most drastic aerodynamic forms. Partially flanged buttons, disks, drop shapes, and cores are common to this location. Their texture is mainly smooth with delicate, intricate swirling patterns and small pits. Most tektites found are small and more worn than other localities as the molten droplets flew further and higher than the tektites found in other, less distal localities. This beautiful specimen would be excellent addition to any collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shipping guaranteed to track?

Standard shipping is the most economical method- First Class Mail through the U.S. Postal Service. This does not come with guaranteed tracking to the destination. The package usually scans and updates within the U.S. however, international tracking is not available. It is the buyers responsibility to understand all shipping/customs policies in their country.

We offer many shipping upgrades which include tracking and insurance upon request. Please contact us to customize shipping options (such as signature confirmation and added insurance) or select 'Tracking and Insurance' as an upgrade to Priority mail.
Please note, that some destinations do not offer Priority Mail tracking.

**We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or delayed mail

Are there estimated shipping times for First Class Package?

I ship through USPS First Class Mail in order to offer low cost shipping. Unfortunately, this service is highly variable on shipping times, and is inconsistent in tracking international. Typically packages can arrive anywhere from 10-30 business days or longer. Although First Class is my default shipping method I highly recommend upgraded shipping for express shipping times, guaranteed tracking, and insurance. Please contact us with any questions you may have or to request the use of Fed Ex or UPS services.

Custom and personalised orders
